How does a Water Printer work?
The interactive water printer is a machine that has a large number of nozzles. They are placed in a row. The water flowing through the nozzles is electronically controlled. Water drops formed this way create falling images. Water circulates in a closed system. The water droplets that are created by the interactive water printer fall into a tank at the bottom. Then, the water is filtered and pumped back up.
The interactive water printer is delivered as a separate device, which is installed by us at the place indicated the client. The place of installation may be indoors or outdoors.
In order to run the water printer the place of installation should be equipped with a water treatment plant, a trough for the falling water and pipes connecting all elements. The water treatment plant is available in our offer as a separate product. The piping and the trough is usually delivered by a local hydraulic company.
This product can be used to build permanent installations only. It is not suitable for mobile installations. You may find mobile water printers in our offer as a separate product.
Circular (round or curved) interactive water printer
It consists of shorter modules. They are 65cm long and can be assembled at a chosen angle to form a water wall of different shapes. The smallest angle between two modules is 135 degrees. This gives a variety of round or wavy shapes that can be obtained:
A circle with a diameter between 1,6m and 10m
A Round corner
Other round shapes with the radius of curvature greater than 0,8m
Although the interactive water printer can be fixed at any height, the water images are visible best up to 8m below the device in windless conditions. The falling images can be distorted when falling from greater heights, or if exposed to wind.
The installation height does not influence the price of the digital water printer.

Operating the interactive water printer
The machine is operated using an android device (usually a tablet). It is used to upload programs (graphic files) and start and stop the machine.
Spectators can use the tablet with the android application to make any black and white drawings with their fingers.
After pressing the start button, the digital water printer stops printing the default program immediately to display the viewer-drawn shapes three times. Afterward, the machine returns to printing the default program.
Data transmission via Bluetooth with a range of about 15m.
The client can put it on a stand or hand it to service personnel.
The platform is mounted on a water tank, and it allows the spectators to reach the other side of the digital water printer. It is equipped with sensors which turn off the flow of water above the spectators’ heads as soon as they enter. The platform and steps are made of grating covered with metal mesh. Thus, you can walk on them even in high heels.
A digital water printer with a swing consists of a swing equipped with sensors. The machine controls the water flow so that users don’t get wet. The swing should be between 3,5 and 5m high. If it’s higher, a person using the swing may need some assistance to start swinging. If the interactive water printer is installed outdoors, the spectators may become a bit wet if the wind blows the water drops towards them.
To reduce water splashes it is recommended to cover the water tank with anti-splash mats. They can be delivered on request.
Synchronize the interactive water printer with music, lighting and connect it to other devices using the DMX512 protocol. This way you can turn on and off the digital water printer anytime, or switch between programs.
Please refer to our technical documentation for more details about the lighting possibilities. We can deliver top mounted LED lamps integrated with the machine as an option.
The interactive water printer has a large number of nozzles. Some of them may slightly drip when closed (1 small water drop every 2-20 sec). This is a normal process and it does not affect the overall visual experience.
However, there may be situations which this is not desirable in:
In theatres where people perform under the digital water printer while it is not in use
When the tank is closed with a cover between shows
In these situations we recommend our clients to buy an additional accessory: the No-Drop System.
This system keeps the small drops from falling down when the water printer is turned off.

Installation site requirements
The digital water curtain can be installed provided that the installation place meets all the technical requirements mentioned in the Technical Specification that is available on request. The following elements should be ensured by the client:
Hydraulic system (pipes, pump, water treatment) according to the specification
Water tank (trough)
Lighting (if not ordered from us)
Shipment (if not ordered from us)
Transportation for our technicians (if shipment not ordered from us)
Accommodation for our technicians
Custom duties and taxes
A lift or a ladder (if lower than 4m) for technicians to access the mounting place
The machine is fixed to metal ceiling mounts with winches. They are sent to the client in advance, and they should be bolted in a desired position before the installation takes place. Their documentation is sent on request.
Water images are visible best against a dark background.
To reduce water splashes, the water tank should be covered with splash reducing mats. They can be delivered on request.
Under regular conditions, the falling water will not be spraying out of the tank noticeably. However, it cannot be ruled out that the water will wet the floor as a result of wind, spectators touching streams of water, during assembly and disassembly.
The digital water curtain is rainproof but it cannot work during a storm.
Winds over 7 knots (3 on the Beaufort scale) can deform falling images and cause water to fall outside the tank or give the people nearby a wetting. To reduce the risk of wind, it is worth placing the digital water curtain in front of a wall or artificial background, protecting it against the wind, putting the machine sideways to the wind, avoiding the machine placed in constricted spaces, e.g. between buildings, where the wind speed increases.
It usually takes a number of consecutive days to install and test the circular digital water curtain:
The machine is assembled on the ground below the ceiling mounts.
The winches are connected to the ceiling mounts and to the machine
The machine is raised
Our technicians use ladders or a lift to fix the machine to the ceiling mounts, and to connect cables and pipes
The digital water curtain is programmed and tested. The hydraulic installation has to be operational
All the technical requirements must be fulfilled before the installation. It must be possible to run the pump and the tank must be filled with water during the installation. In that time, the machine and the ground below should be freely accessible to our technicians. They should have a possibility to run and test it for at least 6 hours per day.
The client should determine the work schedule in advance, and inform about all the safety requirements (like obligatory Personal Protective Equipment) and mandatory permits at the place of installation.
Our insurance does not allow our technicians to perform activities other than work with the equipment we provide. In particular:
They may not assemble or disassemble the machine housing and its surroundings supplied by the client.
They may not perform any plumbing or electrical work
They cannot drill holes or use anchor bolts in order to fix the ceiling mounts
When the installation is complete, our technicians will provide information on how to operate and maintain the machine to a person designated by the client.
If the installation site requirements are not met, the installation may be postponed or prolonged until the client resolves all the problems. In this case, an extra assembly fee is charged for each additional assembly day.
Obligatory Annual Maintenance and Guarantee Extension Fee
We guarantee the proper operation of the digital water curtains. The guarantee is not limited in time.
To keep the digital water curtain operational, a client has to pay a Maintenance and Guarantee Extension Fee for the machine and its accessories.
The Maintenance and Guarantee Extension Fee is paid annually and is equal to 19,6% of the total price including optional products.
The Maintenance and Guarantee Extension Fee is not payable for the first year of operation. It is due from the client starting from the second year of operation..
The fee should be paid before the expiration date. Otherwise the digital water curtain may be electronically blocked until the payment is made.
A document with the guarantee terms and conditions is provided on demand.
Advantages of Endless Guarantee
The digital water curtain is a highly complex product. Its fast-moving parts are subject to wear and tear. To provide clients with the deepest possible experience, we developed our own valves which are even 6 times more durable than the ones used by our competitors.
The digital water curtain systems offered by the competition may have a very limited lifespan. After some time, the machines may deteriorate and deliver a negative experience to the spectators. Owners of those systems are exposed to very high repair or maintenance costs after the guarantee has expired. The digital water curtains produced by our competitors are usually proprietary systems that may be repaired only by the manufacturer. This usually significantly increases the servicing costs. The repair cost may actually be as high as that of a new machine.
To keep our clients satisfied, we decided to reduce the initial cost of our machines significantly, and introduce a low annual fee.
The initial cost of our digital water curtain is lower by 40-50% when compared to our competitors’ solutions.
The fee is below 3 EUR/day per water printing module.
Our clients are happy that they can avoid unexpected costs in the future, and they appreciate the transparency of our offer. They are glad to receive the highest quality and everlasting product that impresses even after years of operation.
Maintenance and servicing
The installation has to be inspected every 3 years.
In an unlikely case of malfunction, we will ask the client to designate a person to carry some simple servicing tasks. Examples of those tasks are mentioned in the Technical Specification. Those actions are aimed at fixing the problem or finding the source of malfunction before our arrival.
All maintenance and service works as well as any spare parts are covered by the guarantee. However, the client has to settle all shipping costs for the spare parts along with all the expenses for the transportation and accommodation for our technicians.
